  • Thursday Parent/Teacher Conferences Thursday, March 16th from 6:00 to 8:00
  • Harney School of Dance assembly in the morning.
  • Thursday is library check out day so pack those books.
  •  Check out our class blog. The students are so excited about this. Class Blog
  • Homework will be given out on Monday and should be returned no later than Friday. Please remind your child to turn in their reading journal along with their math homework.
  • March 22 we will have our second Docent in the morning.
  • We are having our Springtime Party on March 24th.  I am looking for 3 volunteers.  It will be from 9:15 to 10:15.

     

Reading -
  • Continuing to work with the long e spelling patterns (ee, ea, ei, ey, y, silent e).
  • Chunking longer words into smaller parts to help with decoding and spelling.
  • Working with homophones like week and weak.
  • Continuing to learn about the 6 syllable types. We have learned closed, open, magic, r-controlled and are learning double vowels.
  • Continuing to work on activating background knowledge, identifying main ideas, determining what is most important in a book, questioning and making connections to self, a book, or the world.

Writing -

  • Reviewing what does a sentence need to be a sentence?  They need a subject (noun), predicate (verb), starts with an uppercase letter and has and end mark.
  • Continuing with realistic fiction stories.  We have our characters and setting now we work on a problem and a solution for our stories.
  • Always looking at grammar e.g. uppercase letters, end marks, nouns, verbs, adjectives and the 4 types of sentences.

Math -

  • Number Corner - Practicing facts, working with 3D shapes, and quarters and dollars
  • Bridges - S
    • Continuing counting, writing, and reading numbers to 1,000.
    • Continuing grouping ones into groups of tens, and bundling of tens to make 100.
    • Continuing to work with pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars to reinforce place value.

Week of June 5th

Can you believe it?  Please read all the notes carefully this week.  There is a lot happening.  At the end of the post is a letter from the 2nd grade team about the field trip.   We need three  to  four volunteers for our Summer Celebration on the 13th.  Please make sure you have  a current CORI if you are going to volunteer.   Monday June 5th  is Game Day.  Don't forget to bring in a game from home.  No electronic games  Tuesday June 6th will be PJ, Stuffed Animal Day and a towel to sit on.     June 7th field trip to the aquarium .  June 8th will be Movie Day so bring a towel to sit on.    June 9th Field Day -  T-sh

Monday, June 12th Don’t Forget: Bring dry clothes to change into after field events. This includes a change of shoes, socks, and underwear, along with shorts/pants and a shirt ! Students should bring 2 towels. One to dry off with before they change out of wet clothes and into dry ones and 1 to sit on for lunch. Bring in a plastic bag for wet clothes and towel (we don’t have any at school). Put sunscreen on before you get to school! Bring a reusable water bottle ( with your name on it ).   Short socks are encouraged as this makes it easier to change!
