The Week of April 24th

I hope everyone had some extra time to enjoy their families.  I can not wait to see everyone on Monday!

 

  •  We have a five day week!
  • Thursday is book check-out day.  Remember to return those library books.
  • April 8th Discovery Museum will be visiting Fisher and the Second Grade will be learning about different states of matter.
  • We are going on a field trip to the New England Aquarium on June 7th. Field trip permission slips are being sent home the week of May 1st. Please return them to school as soon as possible thank you.
  • Parent volunteer slips for the field trip will also be sent home next week.  Our class will have 3 parent volunteers.  I will put all volunteer slips in a bag and draw names. 

     

Reading -
  • Learning about vowel sounds "ow" and "ou"  like in the words now and out.
  • Chunking longer words into smaller parts to help with decoding and spelling.
  • Continuing to learn about the 6 syllable types. We have learned closed (cat), open (hi) , magic e  (bike), r-controlled ( bird) and double vowels (out).
  • Continuing to work on activating background knowledge, identifying main ideas, determining what is most important in a book, questioning and making connections to self, a book, or the world.

Writing -

  • Finishing writing realistic fictions stories using adjectives and strong verb choices.
  • Starting non-fiction writing about a country of their choose.
  • Always looking at grammar e.g. uppercase letters, end marks, nouns, verbs, adjectives and the 4 types of sentences.

Math -

Number Corner -
      •  Exploring fractions ( 1/4, 1/3, 1/2),  
      • Area -  The space a shape fills up inside.
      • Line plot
      • Addition facts and measurement with centimeters
Bridges - 
    • Finishing unit 6 where we learned about area (The space a shape fills up inside.), arrays (introduction to multiplication), and 2D shapes' attributes (characteristics), and sorting them.
    • Starting unit 7 learning about place value, estimating, and measurement in centimeters.

Social Studies -Learning about what makes people migrate through read a louds.


Science - Finishing erosion and starting to learn about different materials.

Week of June 5th

Lunch:     Monday - Mac and Cheese   Tuesday -  Chicken or Lo Mein    Wednesday - Pull Pork     Thursday  -  salad    Friday  - Hamburger, cheeseburger, or veggie burger Last full week of school. Can you believe it?  Please read all the notes carefully this week.  There is a lot happening.  At the end of the post is a letter from the 2nd grade team about the field trip.   We need three  to  four volunteers for our Summer Celebration on the 13th.  Please make sure you have  a current CORI if you are going to volunteer.   Monday June 5th  is Game Day.  Don't forget to bring in a game from home.  No electronic games  Tuesday June 6th will be PJ, Stuffed Animal Day and a towel to sit on.     June 7th field trip to the aquarium .  June 8th will be Movie Day so bring a towel to sit on.    June 9th Field Day -  T-sh

  Welcome to Ms. Davis' Class  Special Schedule:  Monday -  Field Day no special      Tuesday  - STEM     Wednesday  - 1/2 day no  special Lunch:  Monday -  Hamburger, cheeseburger or veggie burger     Tuesday -  Chicken and rice  casserole Wednesday - 1/2 Day no lunch Monday:    Field Day Reminders! Monday, June 12th Don’t Forget: Bring dry clothes to change into after field events. This includes a change of shoes, socks, and underwear, along with shorts/pants and a shirt ! Students should bring 2 towels. One to dry off with before they change out of wet clothes and into dry ones and 1 to sit on for lunch. Bring in a plastic bag for wet clothes and towel (we don’t have any at school). Put sunscreen on before you get to school! Bring a reusable water bottle ( with your name on it ).   Short socks are encouraged as this makes it easier to change!
