The Week of April 24th

I hope everyone had some extra time to enjoy their families.  I can not wait to see everyone on Monday!

 

  •  We have a five day week!
  • Thursday is book check-out day.  Remember to return those library books.
  • April 8th Discovery Museum will be visiting Fisher and the Second Grade will be learning about different states of matter.
  • We are going on a field trip to the New England Aquarium on June 7th. Field trip permission slips are being sent home the week of May 1st. Please return them to school as soon as possible thank you.
  • Parent volunteer slips for the field trip will also be sent home next week.  Our class will have 3 parent volunteers.  I will put all volunteer slips in a bag and draw names. 

     

Reading -
  • Learning about vowel sounds "ow" and "ou"  like in the words now and out.
  • Chunking longer words into smaller parts to help with decoding and spelling.
  • Continuing to learn about the 6 syllable types. We have learned closed (cat), open (hi) , magic e  (bike), r-controlled ( bird) and double vowels (out).
  • Continuing to work on activating background knowledge, identifying main ideas, determining what is most important in a book, questioning and making connections to self, a book, or the world.

Writing -

  • Finishing writing realistic fictions stories using adjectives and strong verb choices.
  • Starting non-fiction writing about a country of their choose.
  • Always looking at grammar e.g. uppercase letters, end marks, nouns, verbs, adjectives and the 4 types of sentences.

Math -

Number Corner -
      •  Exploring fractions ( 1/4, 1/3, 1/2),  
      • Area -  The space a shape fills up inside.
      • Line plot
      • Addition facts and measurement with centimeters
Bridges - 
    • Finishing unit 6 where we learned about area (The space a shape fills up inside.), arrays (introduction to multiplication), and 2D shapes' attributes (characteristics), and sorting them.
    • Starting unit 7 learning about place value, estimating, and measurement in centimeters.

Social Studies -Learning about what makes people migrate through read a louds.


Science - Finishing erosion and starting to learn about different materials.

erode away.  We are very proud because we were successful!  They worked together cooperatively

 and they persevered.
