Weekly Update for Week of May 8th

Lunch:  Monday - Taco Bites   Tuesday - Chicken Nuggets   Wednesday - Salad.   Thursday - Pizza

No lunch Friday because of the half day.


 

  •  May 8th Discovery Museum will be visiting Fisher. The Second Grade will be learning about different states of matter.
  • You will know by Tuesday May 9th if you will be joining us for our field trip on June 7th.  You must have a current CORI before June 7th for you to chaperone on the field trip.  The forms are in the Parent Portal and it takes about 3 days.
  • We will have field day volunteers join the class during our field events and for our end-of-year party.  Make sure you have a current CORI.  
  • Friday, May 12th is a half day.
   
Reading -
  • Starting to learn about the "le" spelling pattern.
  • Chunking longer words into smaller parts to help with decoding and spelling.
  • Continuing to learn about the 6 syllable types. We have learned closed (cat), open (hi) , magic e  (bike), r-controlled ( bird) and double vowels (out).
  • Continuing to work on activating background knowledge, identifying main ideas, determining what is most important in a book, questioning and making connections to self, a book, or the world.

Writing -

  • Learning about opinion writing through listening to books, group writing, and independent writing.
  • Working on group opinion paragraph and starting independent opinion paragraph
  • Always looking at grammar e.g. uppercase letters, end marks, nouns, verbs, adjectives and the 4 types of sentences.

Math -

Number Corner for May-
  • Addition and subtraction facts
  • Reading and writing numbers to 1,000.
  • Skip counting by 10s, 100s, and 1,000s.
  • Adding and subtracting within 1,000.
  • Line plot
  • Measuring lengths to whole units.
Bridges - Continuing unit 7:  
  • Adding, subtracting, skip counting with numbers up to 1,000.
  • Using open number line,  base ten manipulative  , and pictures to help solve 3-digit words problems.
  • Estimating
  • Measuring and comparing inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
  • Working with 1/2s, 1/3s, and 1/4s. 
  • Introduction to division

Social Studies  - Learning about what is a need and what is a want.the 

Science -Working with different materials like liquid, gas, and solids.
