Weekly Update

 Update for the Week of November 28th

NOTES

  1. I hope everyone had time to relax over the last 4 days.

  2. We have a normal 5 day week! 

  3. A new journal for homework is coming home this week. The prompts have changed and the book is larger, so I hope it helps. Please make sure your child writes in pencil.  We will be practicing where to start writing on the page and when to skip lines when writing a response. 

What we are working on.

Reading: 

  • Reading and spelling silent e words, 2 syllable words, and suffixes to silent e words

  • Reading nonfiction books and doing the following: 

    • Activating background knowledge before reading.

    • Looking for text features like table of contents and captions.

    • Identifying the main idea.

    • Becoming an active reader through questioning. 

Writing:

  • Writing nonfiction All About Books. What they are experts at.

  • We will start doing a shared research writing project on dolphins.

  • Always looking at grammar - Uppercase letters, end marks, nouns, verbs,  adjectives and the 4 types of sentences

Math:

  • Number Corner:Continuing telling time on the analogue clock, looking at shape attributes like number of sides and vertices, measuring length, and explaining how double and doubles plus 1 facts help us.

  • Bridges Math: 

    • Learning how to use an open number line to solve 2-digit addition and subtraction problems.  

    • Quickly identifying numbers represented by groups of tens and ones and learning to split 2-digit numbers into tens and ones to support adding and subtracting

    • Always explaining how we solved a math problem using math language. 

Science/Social Studies:

  •  We will start learning about the 7 continents and 5 major oceans while learning about different animals on the continents.
